What is collaboration?
Collaboration is a term used widely within the school environment at both pupil and staff levels. The term collaboration can have a variety of interpretations ranging from working in small groups to cross curricular links between teaching modules. The Center for the Collaborative Classroom (2016) state "In Collaborative Classrooms, teachers facilitate an authentic exchange of ideas and children learn to become caring, principled people as well as thoughtful, disciplined learners. " This further embodies the ethos of Parklands as a school, and shows that not only are we looking to create a successful working environment for pupils to both learn and progress, but we as a school are also looking to increase the social capability and skill sets that pupils will need when faced with future aspirations in education and the work place. What are the aims of this working group? Throughout the academic year the 'Collaborative Learning' working group are to work on their own individual plans for developing a meaningful collaborative classroom environment. The group itself comprises a wide variety of subject specialists, each looking to incorporate collaboration using unique ideology supported by the vast academic journals and resources available. This will hopefully lead to quantifying the progress and success of collaboration as a key teaching tool within their subject area. Further to this, each teacher will fully support other members of the group by sharing ideas and progress throughout the year, thus enabling the use of a trial and error format to evaluate the use of different collaborative techniques throughout the year. |
